Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British-born American philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. Born in Chislehurst, England, he moved to the United States in 1938 and began Zen training in New York. Pursuing a career, he attended Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, where he received a master's degree in theology. Watts became an Episcopal priest in 1945, then left the ministry in 1950 and moved to California, where he joined the faculty of the American Academy of Asian Studies.

what do you desire what makes you itch what part of the situation would you like that's supposed I do this often and Vocational guidance of students they come to me and say well we getting out of car didn't we have the faintest idea what we want to do  so I always ask the question what would you like to do with money when I love you but how would you really enjoy spending your life  well it's amazing as a result of our kind of educational system problems say well would like to be painted like to be poets would like to be writers because everybody knows he found on any money that way or another presence is what I like to live in all the dogs ride horses  battery want to teach in the riding school let's go through with it what do you want to do finally got down to something with the individual says he really wants to do I will say to him you do that  and forget the money because if you say that getting the money is the most important thing  you spend your life  completely waiting outside you'll be doing things you don't like doing that is to go on doing things you don't like doing stupid better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing then a long life spent in a miserable way draw if you do really like what you're doing it doesn't matter what it is you Canada I bet you'll be able to get a good seat for what I did so I don't know why do my size that says everybody is is interested in everything  anything you could be interested in you will find out who's going but is absolutely stupid we spend your time doing things you don't like in order to go on spending things you don't like doing pictures of bikes at the teacher children follow the same tracks  do you want me to do it is we're bringing up magical is the same sort of liability  in order that they may justify themselves and find satisfaction in life by bringing up children to bring up the same thing that's why it's so important to consider this question what do I desire
